There is an interdependent connection between our inner and outer world. The air we breathe in is the air plants breathe out, and the air plants breathe in is the air we breathe out. And it is not only the plants that connect us to nature. All forms of life on this planet are interconnected. Consequently, every action we take at this planet is followed by a reaction. The ecological crisis we are experiencing today is a reaction to the inner crisis of humanity. We have lost the sense of integration: integration with ourselves and integration with our surrounding. Instead, we strive for material possession, living in the delusion that happiness and life satisfaction lies in stuff, money, and fame. And in a desperate attempt to solve this ecological crisis, we call for sustainable development, but with no interest to give up on our current consumption-based lifestyles. And this mind set determines the state of today’s environment.

Ashtanga yoga, the eight limb yoga, is a method for bringing stillness and clarity into the mind. This weekend workshop is meant both for beginners who want to establish the ground principles for their own practice in Ashtanga yoga, and advanced students who want to expand their knowledge into a different direction. Besides the physical practice, the workshop includes a series of discussion on the roots of the current crisis, the relationship between the Self and the Nature, and how the practice of Ashtanga yoga could serve as a tool for solving the current crisis.

About the teachers

Alexander Medin

R. Alexander Medin has been teaching Yoga around the world for over 20 years. In 2002, he became certified by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois from Mysore, India. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009) developed the style of Vinyasa Yoga known as Ashtanga. Only 35 people worldwide have obtained the certification as Ashtanga teachers by Pattabhi Jois, Alexander being one of them. Alexander has a Master's Degree in Sanskrit and Indian religions and has spent many years studying in India. He regularly writes about Yoga and many of his articles have been published in leading, international journals about Yoga. He translated the Yoga Sutras and Bhagavad Gita to Norwegian.

Eva Antonie Brozova

Eva Antonie Brozova is a student of Denisa Sengerova and R. Alexander Medin. She found a path to yoga in 2011, searching for a way to relieve tension and reduce stress. The practice of yoga has been helping her to uncover the roots of the suffering. In 2016, she started assisting Denisa in Prague Shala, and currently, she volunteers at Nøsen Yoga og Fjellhotell, helping Alexander Medin. She finds a meaning in teaching Ashtanga yoga and enhancing students to discuss on basic philosophical questions. Graduated from the University of Economics in Prague, nowadays she continues expanding her knowledge in International Environmental Studies in Norway.
