Black Lotus is a new form of vinyasa yoga designed to be practiced in the Mysore style. Based on traditional Hatha principles, the system offers six deep and playful sequences of ascending difficulty to open the inner channels of the body and encourage the creative sap to flow. Each sequence has three "shades" or variants, so you can scale the sequence to your immediate circumstance, and make the practice your own.
In this intensive, Ty teaches the fundamental energetic principles behind Black Lotus Yoga. You will learn how the Black Lotus system works, how to practice the First and Second Series, and how to advance further into other series as your practice evolves. There is an abundance of passion and intelligence here, in the emergence of Black Lotus Yoga, and you are invited to be part of the new blossoming.
No prior experience with Black Lotus Yoga is necessary, but some familiarity with vinyasa yoga, and especially with the Mysore style of practice, is highly recommended. You can see a video of the First Series of the Black Lotus system here.
Ashtangis: Please note that you are welcome to practice your regular ashtanga practice in the morning, but our workshops will revolve around Black Lotus postures and sequences. Ashtanga and Black Lotus are meant to be practiced side by side, and to support one another.
Program
Our program involves six mornings of Mysore-style asana practice, five sessions of pranayama and chanting, and five afternoon workshops lovingly designed to illumine our theme. The workshops will cover postural alignment, internal breath, bandha, mudra, energetic balance, and of course, the philosophy and mythology of Hatha Yoga.
Asana instruction will encompass both Ashtanga Vinyasa and Black Lotus Yoga, the new vinyasa system designed to be practiced in the Mysore style. Practice sheets will be on hand for those who want to learn Black Lotus sequencing.

About Ty
Ty Landrum is a poet, philosopher, somatic explorer and apprentice to the body. He learned yoga from pain and heartache, loss and confusion, old books and lost tapes, full moons, long bouts of silence, cold winds, simplicity, forgiveness, surrender, and the caring words of a few good friends.
Renowned for his profound explorations of traditional yogic ideas, Ty has a unique talent for bringing the philosophy of yoga alive, not only in words, but on the canvas of the breathing body. His passion as a teacher is to share the brilliance of yoga with anyone who wants to learn.
