Yoga is life, and life itself is our great yoga practice. Teaching yoga is, first and foremost, about understanding what yoga truly is. It involves building a foundational knowledge and then sharing it in an honest and authentic way. Modern yoga often emphasizes form and appearance, but living yoga touches our very existence, awakens a deeper presence, and brings clarity to our lives. Yoga helps us see the world in a new way, understand our own minds, and find greater clarity and decisiveness in everyday life.

Becoming a yoga teacher is like any other profession; the deeper you go into your practice, the more confident you become, and the better you can serve others. This year will help you gain a broader understanding of what yoga truly is. You will explore practice, philosophy, teaching, and how to communicate yoga in a clear and honest way.

Below is an overview of what you will learn on a personal level:

  • Develop a solid personal practice that strengthens both body and mind.

  • Breathing techniques that cleanse the body and mind, increasing energy, well-being, and insight.

  • Classical meditation exercises that enhance concentration and promote a deeper sense of well-being.

  • Traditional mantra and japa practices that center the mind and improve focus.

  • A foundational introduction to yoga philosophy and key classical texts.

  • Basic anatomy education.

  • A historical overview of yoga’s development over the past 150 years.

  • Learn to analyze texts, recognize connections, and gain new perspectives.

  • Write essays, participate in debates, and present lectures on various aspects of yoga.

  • Relax into what you do.

The foundation of yoga is presence. Mastery comes through practice and repetition, allowing new routines to cultivate experiences that bring clarity and insight. Yoga is also about letting go—surrendering! Let go! It involves learning to observe the mind’s patterns and becoming more aware of how they shape us. To achieve this, a daily practice is essential. This teacher training places great emphasis on exactly that—integrating yoga into daily life to gain a deeper understanding of its essence.

This course is open to anyone seeking a deeper exploration of yoga. Below is a brief description of the types of people who have previously taken the course:

  • Those aspiring to a career as a yoga teacher, either full-time or part-time.

In short, the course attracts a diverse range of participants from all walks of life. Every year is different—some students are highly dedicated, while others join for the joy of learning. Expectations for the Course and General Criteria

Yoga is more popular than ever. There are countless schools and disciplines, but no matter how we stretch and shape it, the core essence of yoga remains the same: to know oneself and to become a better human being. Yoga is not about proving anything; it is about becoming more transparent to your true nature, cultivating clarity and insight. This comes through practice, discipline, and mastery—a lifelong process. The more humility you bring to the mystery of life, the stronger the pull toward deeper knowledge and understanding.

While prior experience with yoga is helpful, ensuring that you understand what you are committing to, the course does not have strict entry requirements. However, it does encourage dedication, self-discipline, personal practice, and active engagement. Throughout the year, you will be expected to:

  • Write four essays, each up to 2,000 words.

  • Deliver a presentation to a study group and another to the full class.

  • Complete an exam covering all areas of study.

  • Leading yoga classes with clarity and confidence.

  • Guiding a Primary Series in Ashtanga Yoga, including correct counting, pronunciation, and understanding of the postures.

  • Conducting a Mysore-style class.
