Have you never done yoga before, or have you perhaps attended Ashtanga led classes but didn't dare to try Mysore style (private practice)? Then, this is the course for you!

We will introduce the basic principles of Ashtanga Yoga and we will practice breathing techniques, focus points and techniques to remember the sequence so that you can easily participate in classes in the traditional Mysore style (private practice). This week you have the opportunity to try a bit of both places.

If you think that your body is too stiff to do yoga, we are more than ready to prove you otherwise. Yoga is for absolutely everyone, and by modifying the positions where necessary, you will build up a stable, safe and highly nourishing practice.

This beginner's course runs parallel to Sadhana Intensive (immersion in yoga with Alexander Medin) and you are welcome to attend one or more Mysore classes if you wish. The philosophy classes are with Alexander Medin.

The philosophy classes will focus on the old Sankhya system which laid the foundation for the entire Yoga tradition and many other Indian traditions. We will look at the origins of this in the Upanishad scriptures, the Sankhya Karika and how this discipline was instrumental in the development of the Yoga Sutras and all practical yoga philosophy.

We serve delicious, nutritious vegetarian food for all meals. Three meals per day are included in the price together with accommodation in a double or triple room. If you want a single room, there will be a small addition to the price.

Nøsen is located in magnificent, undisturbed natural surroundings and there is plenty of time every day to go for walks, enjoy the silence, swim in mountain water, cycle, paddle or just lie in the grass and relax.

About Ruth Elin

Ruth Elin Simonsen has practiced ashtanga yoga for almost 20 years and has had a daily practice for the last 15 years. Her teacher is primarily Alexander Medin, but she has also practiced for long periods with Ellen Johannesen and Basia Lipska Larsen. On travels in India, Ruth Elin has practiced in Mysore with Sharath Jois, in Goa with Rolf Naujokat and Sharmila Desai, and in Rishikesh with Louise Ellis.

"Developing a physically demanding practice at the same time as you get older is both challenging and very exciting. It's about presence, strength and balance. That's why I started with wave surfing as well, so now I go to Portugal as soon as I have the chance - there I can combine both parts in a perfect way.”
