A workshop about friendship, love & peace of mind
This week you will get a solid introduction to all aspects of yoga. You will learn basic technique in the physical positions that ensure a safe yoga practice. You will also be introduced to classical meditation and breathing exercises that strengthen the mind and nervous system. The main focus this week is the many joys of everyday life and how the classic Indian texts relate to the many challenges everyday life presents.
It is demanding to live. It is an art to take care of the good relationships, the small moments and see the beauty of everything that is rather than burying oneself in the negative. Life is sometimes a balancing act between the small and large challenges of everyday life.
This workshop focuses on inner and outer joy. What strengthens us, enriches us and makes us a better version of ourselves. The personal responsibility we have as humans in finding inner stability, peace of mind, and a lasting joy.
Dr. Vijaya Kumar & Alexander Medin
They met at Sanskrit College in India and have been friends for over 20 years. Together they have taught yoga in many places in Asia. Vijaya Kumar wrote his dissertation on yoga therapy and runs his own www.yogagurukula.in in India.
Alexander wrote his MA thesis on yoga in the 21st century with a focus on the Krishnamacharya tradition. Together, they have more than 50 years of experience with yoga and Sanskrit.
Vijaya Kumar
Vijaya Kumar is a traditional Indian pandit. He also has a doctorate in "Yoga and Health". He studied the Vedas in a traditional way at the Sringeri Mutt. Later he studied for six years at the Sanskrit College in Mysore. Here he immersed himself in yoga and later completed a Vidvat degree in Nyaya (Indian logic) and Vedanta. As a student, he won many awards and became national champion in Sanskrit debate on the topics of Sankhya and Yoga.
After completing his studies, he moved back to his village (2010) and started a traditional Yoga Gurukulam. This place is now visited by people from all over the world who come to immerse themselves in the study of yoga and vedanta.
R. Alexander Medin
R. Alexander Medin has been teaching yoga for 28 years. He was certified by the legendary Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in 2002, a distinction only achieved by only 33 people. He has an MA in Sanskrit and Indian Religions (SOAS 2004) and has had the privilege of traveling the world teaching yoga. He is the founder of Puro Yoga, Stiftelsen Back in the Ring and Nøsen Yoga and Fjellhotell.
Alexander is a classic dandelion child. Despite a troubled upbringing, he became Norwegian champion in Breakdance (1984) and later boxing (1987) before completing a classical ballet education (1990). He later worked for five years as a dancer and musical artist before being given the privilege of teaching yoga.
