Welcome to beautiful Nøsen with mountain tranquility and time for softness and rest.
This weekend, Elisabeth invites you on an inner journey through breathing, yoga and mindfulness. We immerse ourselves in yoga with a focus on the subtle energy, to return to the sentient body, calm the nervous system and practice mental stillness. You get an insight into how yoga philosophy sees the energetic body through philosophy in practice with breathing techniques, Moon yoga, deep rest with yin and nidra. When we learn to recognize our "energy map" we experience a deeper presence in life's moments, enhanced health, and we can achieve a steadier mind that makes us more resilient. Yoga can be a wonderful tool for coping with life, and a wonderful way to train the body to be strong and soft - and simply a wonderful respite. This weekend gives you room to find exactly what you need, and maybe you'll learn something new about yourself along the way.
Each class has its own theme that prepares for the next class, so you will experience a gradual progression and understanding of the exercises throughout the weekend. Elisabeth teaches clearly and softly, and focuses on making room for everyone by giving modified exercises where needed or more challenge to those who are ready for it. This retreat is for you who long for a respite and to find yourself back. For those of you who are new to yoga, and for those of you who are well established in your practice and seek more contact and flow in your energy.
Welcome to a weekend of energy in harmony!
About the yoga program:
♡ Moony Yoga / Chandra Namaskar Every morning we start with a Mindful Vinyasa Yoga practice at a leisurely pace, inspired by Chandra Namaskar. Vinyasa yoga is a style where breath and movement are synchronized, like a meditation in motion, a dance with your energy. Throughout the weekend, we gradually go into each part of the sequence, before we put the whole sequence together in the last class. Chandra Namaskar is the counterpart to Sun Salutation, where there is more focus on hip openers, back bends and chest openers that release tension along the entire spine. The sequence focuses on strengthening the feminine energy, learning to balance strength and softness in each exercise. You will encounter both strong exercises, balance and deep stretching in these classes.
♡ Yin Yoga Yin yoga invites you to relieve tension in the body and find deep rest. Through each breath, attentive presence is practiced and in time we find our sensed body, our felt energy, back. Here there is room to create new energy. Melt down against pillows and blankets, feel deep breaths that relieve tension and soften the body. Through long stretches in each exercise, there is time to find softness and calm - a style of yoga that is particularly nourishing after a day in the mountains.
♡ Pranayama/evening classes cover breathing techniques (pranayama) inspired by the tradition of Kaivalyadhama. Yogic techniques that prepare for meditation by calming the nervous system, exercising control over emotions, quieting the mind, and clearing the sinuses and lungs. You will learn various techniques that you will be able to take with you into everyday life for stress management, deeper sleep and increased focus at work and in everyday life.
♡ Meditation Meditation practices quieting the mind; by shifting focus to a sound, light, breath or a mantra. By practicing concentration in the mind over time, we can practice towards stillness of mind - towards meditation.
You don't need any prior knowledge to participate, just a desire to be more present in life, and flow with your energy.
NB. The classes are only taught in Norwegian.
About Elisabeth Sørum:
Breathing and philosophy in Yoga are close to my heart, and have given me important tools for both body and mind. In 2015, I started my first immersion in Ashtanga Yoga, after practicing with my teacher for a while. I liked this tradition, and afterwards I built on it with my second Ashtanga immersion with Alexander Medin, as well as participating in my third Ashtanga immersion over two years with Ellen Johannessen. Ashtanga yoga has become my cornerstone in my practice, and in my teaching, but I believe that body and mind need variety and moderation. Therefore, I have also embraced Yin Yoga and more modern Vinyasa yoga in my toolbox. I find joy and benefit in combining these styles, as it provides more tools in meeting students, and a more holistic approach to yoga. Diet is also an important cornerstone for me in dealing with body and mind. I have a bachelor's degree in nutrition, and have studied mindful eating, which sparked my interest in mindfulness. I have taken this with me on the yoga mat more than before, and you will encounter a more relaxed pace in my classes now.
When I teach, I want to meet you where you are, by giving you exercises adapted to your body and teaching you to become independent in how you can adjust yourself to exercises. With clear and pleasant instructions, you are guided into exercises with a focus on correct technique and a wise progression. In my classes, there is always a focus on creating an atmosphere that takes you to the moment, for a meditative practice, as well as providing room for self-reflection, physically and mentally. On the yoga mat with me you will meet acceptance, motivation and inner peace.
Mynte Yoga is my heart's child, a yoga studio I started in Sandefjord in 2015. There I teach various classes a week, hold various events, provide health inspiration and even more. I have been associated with Joy Yoga in Oslo for several years, taught in Larvik at a center for eight years, held classes at yoga festivals and travel around Norway every year creating wonderful yoga retreats. I always look forward to sharing the Joy of Yoga with others, and look forward to meeting you at Nøsen for an enriching weekend together.
